What a testing request from the housing company looks like. The housing company and the resident's name are made up.

How to test.

Do the test when you are at home. The message lists the smoke alarms in your apartment.

  1. Press the test button.

Hold the alarm's test button down for a few seconds. A working alarm sounds loudly. Do not climb on a chair: you can press the button with a broom handle, for example.

  2. Open the link in the message.

For each alarm, choose what happened: “It sounded, it works”, “It did not sound properly” or “I need help testing”. Save.

  3. Done.

Your answer is saved in the housing company's smoke alarm register with the date. The link works for 14 days, so you can come back to it if you cannot test them all at once.

Did an alarm not sound? Say so on the same form. The housing company gets a fault report straight away. Keeping the alarms working is the housing company's responsibility.

Under section 17 of the Rescue Act, residents must report a faulty alarm to the housing company without delay. Testing lets you spot a fault in time. Finlex: pelastuslaki 379/2011

How to tell a genuine message.

Scam messages are common. In a genuine message these four things match.

  1. 1

    Your housing company and apartment.

In a testing request they are in the subject and at the start of the message.

  2. 2

    The sender is Alarmi.

The sender's address ends in @mail.alarmi.fi. Alarmi is made by JL Screen Oy.

  3. 3

    The link goes to alarmi.fi.

Hover over the button, or press and hold it on a phone. The address must start with https://alarmi.fi/.

  4. 4

    No password, no money.

If a message asks for bank logins, a payment or your identity code, it is not from Alarmi. Do not answer it.

Still unsure? Do not open the link. Type alarmi.fi/portal into your browser and ask for a sign-in link to your own email, or ask your housing company.
